LEWISTOWN —

Spoon River Valley Elementary students placed first as well as runner-up at the 36th annual
Fulton-Schuyler Regional Spelling Bee.
The event, sponsored by the Fulton-Schuyler Regional Office of Education and the Peoria Journal Star, was held Friday at the Fulton County Courthouse in Lewistown. The competition featured 14 spellers from seven school districts within the educational region.
Jordan Stewart won the bee by spelling the word "bungalow" in round 19. He is the son of Wade and Debbie Stewart of Canton.
A sixth grader at Valley Elementary of London Mills, Stewart enjoys sports activities including basketball and baseball.
Carrie Baker, a seventh grade student at Valley Elementary, was runner-up. She was eliminated after misspelling the word "fathom." Baker is the daughter of Nici and Doug of London Mills.
Stewart will advance to the Peoria Grand Final Bee to be held at 1 p.m. March 19 at the WEEK-TV Channel 25 studio in East Peoria. Baker will be the alternate speller in the event Stewart cannot attend.
